Water You Doing Player Reviews & Impressions

Honest launch sentiment — not a recap of the store page trailer.

Player Reviews

Water You Doing? left Early Access-style demo limbo and launched on Steam on August 26, 2026. Twenty-four hours later the store page was not “Very Positive.” It was Mostly Negative: 37 percent of 74 user reviews. By August 30, 2026 the live tally had moved to Mixed: 44 percent of 139 reviews after retail Hotfixes #1 (checkpoints) and #2 (inventory and virtual money). This page keeps both snapshots honest, explains why the launch hurt, and still tells you who the game is for. Scores will keep moving — check Steam for the live number.

There are no critic Metascores yet. What exists is a growing user sample plus months of demo footage titled things like “the buggiest game in the seven seas.” That phrase is now a community joke and a warning label.

The score, without spin

Mostly Negative on a $7.99 game (about $5.99 with the ten-day launch discount) usually means one of three things: the fantasy did not match the trailer, multiplayer did not survive first contact, or both. For Water You Doing? the store copy sold a musty boat, harpoons that break physics, fishing for upgrades, and a Golden Fish revive. Players who wanted that and a stable session wrote the early negative column.

Positive reviews still exist inside both the day-two 37 percent and the later Mixed band. They tend to come from groups that already knew the demo, already had a four-person Discord, and treat a flying hull as the punchline. Negative reviews tend to come from people who bought a co-op night and got rubberbanding, harpoon yeets, or a checkpoint that wrecked the boat — a bug Hotfix #1 specifically apologised for and fixed.

What people still praise

The premise. A physics wreck as a shared house is funny when it works. Harpoons used as grapples, not just guns, are the toy the trailer promised.

Co-op when the host is stable. Assigning a captain, a bailer, and a lookout matches how the systems were built. Revive-with-a-fish is a good running gag when the toilet actually consumes the Golden Fish (a demo bug had to force that requirement).

The loop. Fish, sell, patch, pull, try not to sink. It is readable. Quests added in Hotfix 6 finally tell you where the gate is.

Price. At a discounted $5.99, several players frame it as a party game they will laugh about even if they do not finish Nurwa.

What dominates the complaints

Netcode on a physics boat. Demo Patch 06.09H was almost entirely about client rubberbanding. Launch reviews suggest that story is not over. If you are not the host, the deck can lie to you.

Harpoon violence. Pulling the boat with stacked lines can still throw it. Some of that is intended chaos. Instant orbital launches on retract were patched in demo Hotfix 1; players still report “one more tug” ruining a run. Read Troubleshooting before you call every fling a feature.

Polish versus trailer. Fires, floods, wallets, slaps, and mushrooms were in the reveal post. Physical wallets are gone after Hotfix #2 (money is virtual — see Inventory & Money). When toys hitch, desync, or eat a checkpoint, the joke dies. YouTube first looks from the demo era did not vanish when 1.0 shipped; they still shape expectations.

Solo. The store lists Single-player. The design is four jobs on one hull. Solo is supported and exhausting. Do not buy this as a chill fishing sim.

AI disclosure. The store notes AI used to polish marketing images, localisation, some small 3D models and textures. A slice of reviews always reacts to that line regardless of gameplay.

Is it worth buying right now?

Buy now if:

  • You have two to four friends on Steam tonight and a designated host with a decent CPU.
  • You already liked the demo’s chaos and you are buying the discounted launch window (through September 5, 2026).
  • You can laugh when a run ends in a mine, a slap, or a bug, and you will file a report instead of demanding a refund on principle.

Wait if:

  • You only play solo and want a fair difficulty curve.
  • Unstable multiplayer ruins your night.
  • You expected a deep RPG loop. The shop and fish prices are simple; Hotfix 4 even lowered sell values.
  • You want a guaranteed “Mostly Positive” indie. Mixed after a week of hotfixes is progress, not a victory lap.

If you already own it, stay on the latest Steam build (Hotfix #2 or newer), host on the strongest PC, use Push to Talk, hide extra quest markers with Z when the HUD screams, and keep Slow Mode on the harpoon when the line is stuck in the world. Then read Getting Started, Checkpoints & Saves, and Quests.

Where sentiment lives

Steam discussions and the studio Discord are the live feed. DiSolve’s Hotfix #2 post openly asked for positive reviews while they keep patching — visibility is hurting. Treat day-two 37 percent of 74 as the launch scar and Mixed 44 percent of 139 (30 Aug 2026) as the post-hotfix snapshot, not a rounding error.

Germany’s Steam age rating callout of 12+ for alcohol/tobacco and violence is a useful parental note. The humour is slapstick and crude, not a children’s fishing lesson.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What is the current Steam rating?

As of August 30, 2026: Mixed, 44 percent positive from 139 reviews (up from Mostly Negative 37 percent of 74 on day two). Open the store page for the live number.

Did the launch discount change the reviews?

The game is $7.99 USD, 25 percent off for ten days ending September 5, 2026. Cheap does not cancel netcode complaints, but it is why some positive reviews call it a party toy.

Should I wait for patches?

Retail Hotfixes #1 and #2 already shipped (checkpoints, 3-slot inventory, virtual money). If bugs still tilt you, waiting for the promised tutorials and more physics work is reasonable.

Is the game family-friendly?

Steam Germany lists 12+ for alcohol/tobacco and violence. Expect slapstick, slaps, and crude co-op humour. Not a kids’ fishing title.
